Kia’s lineup spans a wide range — from the quirky, practical Kia Soul that’s a favorite of Coweta commuters, to the large, luxurious Telluride that’s one of the top-rated three-row SUVs in America, to the sport-tuned Stinger that challenges premium European sedans. Each of these vehicles has its own personality, and its own specific maintenance needs.
This guide covers what Kia Soul, Telluride, and Stinger owners in the Coweta, Broken Arrow, and Tulsa metro area need to know to keep their vehicles running well — including the common failure points our technicians see most often.
Kia Soul: Reliable but Not Trouble-Free
The Kia Soul has earned a strong reputation for reliability in its class. The naturally aspirated 2.0L engine is a workhorse with few inherent issues, as long as oil changes are kept current. The turbo Soul (2.0T) is more powerful but more demanding in terms of oil quality and change intervals — stick to full synthetic and change every 5,000 miles.
The most common issue we see on higher-mileage Kia Souls is CVT shudder and hesitation on the models equipped with the Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The IVT fluid is often overlooked because Kia markets it as ‘lifetime fluid’ — but in practice, changing it at 60,000–80,000 miles significantly reduces the risk of CVT failure, which can be extremely expensive.
Kia Soul wheel bearings tend to fail around 90,000–110,000 miles. The symptom is a grinding or humming sound that varies with vehicle speed. The rear wheel bearings are particularly prone to this on the front-wheel-drive Soul. Don’t ignore this — a failed wheel bearing can cause wheel separation if it goes too long without service.
Kia Telluride: Common Issues on a Highly Rated SUV
The Kia Telluride has received near-universal praise since its 2020 launch, and rightfully so — it’s a genuinely excellent vehicle. But even the best vehicles need proper maintenance, and we’ve started seeing patterns on higher-mileage Tellurides that owners should know about.
The Telluride’s 3.8L Lambda V6 engine is generally reliable, but some owners report excessive oil consumption beginning around 50,000–70,000 miles. If your Telluride is consuming oil faster than expected (more than a quart per 3,000 miles), document it carefully and contact Kia — this can be a warranty issue. Catching it early prevents the oil pressure drops that cause more serious damage.
Kia Telluride brake rotors tend to develop surface rust quickly when the vehicle sits for more than a few days, which is normal — but Oklahoma’s humidity can accelerate rotor corrosion on vehicles that aren’t driven daily. If you notice a grinding sound on the first few brake applications after the vehicle has been sitting, this is likely rust being cleared from the rotor surface. Persistent grinding after several stops warrants an inspection.
Kia Stinger: Sport Performance Needs Sport Maintenance
The Kia Stinger GT with its 3.3L twin-turbo V6 is one of the great performance values in the automotive world — but its turbochargers and performance-oriented drivetrain demand more attentive maintenance than a typical family sedan. Oil changes every 5,000 miles with a quality full synthetic meeting Kia’s spec (API SN or later, 5W-30) are non-negotiable.
The Stinger’s rear-wheel-drive platform means the rear differential fluid is an important service item — change it every 30,000–40,000 miles. The AWD version also has a front differential and transfer case to service. Neglecting these fluids on a performance vehicle leads to differential whine, heat damage, and eventual failure that can cost ,000–,000 to repair.
Brake wear on the Stinger GT is faster than average due to its power output and sporty driving dynamics. Front brake pads often need replacement at 30,000–40,000 miles for spirited drivers. The large brake rotors also warp more easily under hard use — consider an upgrade to slotted rotors if you’re a high-mileage driver or use the car on any track days.
